Tcl/Tk 8.2 Release Announcement August 18th, 1999 We are pleased to announce the final release of version 8.2 of the Tcl scripting language and the Tk toolkit. This is primarily a bugfix release but a few new features have also been added. For those who haven't been keeping up with the beta cycle, the new features in 8.2 include: i) a first implementation of the Tcl Extension Architecture (TEA); ii) the Trf patch for stacked I/O Channels, which allows the SSL and other channel system extensions to work; iii) the DDE patch that provides the poke command; iv) significantly improved string and regular expression performance; v). a modified socket driver for Windows that uses a thread to manage the socket event window. We'd like to thank all of you for your patches and other feedback on the beta. The list of contributors on the Scriptics web site has been updated to acknowledge those members of the Tcl community whose code or ideas found their way into this release.
